Student Size Book (8.5 x 5.5) and Audiotape

Student Size Book Sample The Sounds Great! book and tape represent the core of our letter/sound program around which all of the other components are based. The audio-tape teaches letters and sounds through music. Using a catchy, repetitive melody, the vocal side includes 34 verses representing 26 letters, long and short vowel sounds, and 3 digraphs (ch, sh, and th). The instrumental side repeats the melody many times to provide time to learn each verse if necessary.

The student-sized book has 34 colorfully illustrated verses to accompany the tape. The book also includes a full color writing aid in the back which can be removed and used to encourage inventive writing after the student has a comfortable knowledge of letters and sounds.

Games may be enhanced by copying them on construction paper. The games lend themselves to coloring if desired. A laminated set of classroom games may be helpful for reinforcement. An explanatory parent letter is provided for each game.

Make-a-Word Book

Make-a-Word Book Sample The Make-a-Word Book consists of a page to practice printing each letter of the alphabet and a corresponding page of words using that letter.

The page designed to practice printing the letter has a model at the beginning and end of each line in order to accommodate both left and right handed students. The corresponding page of words has picture clues to aid the students in decoding words.

Assessment Package

Assessment Sample The assessment program enables a teacher to measure a student's knowledge of letters and sounds prior to receiving Sounds Great! instruction; it also provides four additional assessment opportunities during the school year. The package includes assessment sheets for upper case letters, lower case letters, and letter sounds. As the student learns letters and sounds throughout the year, the totals are noted at the bottom of the page, allowing the teacher to see progress at a glance. The final page has twelve short words which can be used to determine a child's ability to blend sounds and read (probably not applicable until 2nd semester unless a child has acquired reading skills before starting school).
